Privacy information
This is how QualityTimer B.V. handles personal data in the QualityTimer app and on this website.
Scope
This page has two parts. The first is about the QualityTimer app for iPhone. The second is about the public website of QualityTimer B.V., the pages available at this domain and the contact options shown on it.
Who is responsible
QualityTimer B.V. decides how the app and this website process personal data and is responsible for it.

The QualityTimer app: what it collects
When you create an account: your first name, last name, email address, your password (stored scrambled on our servers, never as text), a push-notification address for your phone and, if you joined through your employer, which company you belong to.
When you challenge a friend: your name as you typed it, the names of the friends you nominated, the reward you offered and the note you wrote to them.
When you run a challenge: when the challenge started and ended, the exact start and end time of every stretch you were phone-free, every break you took and how long it lasted, whether you reached the goal, and how many coins you earned.
That last one deserves a plain sentence, because it is the most detailed thing we hold. For a challenge you ran, we can see the precise minutes during which your phone was and was not in use. Not what you did with it. When.
If the app crashes: it sends us a technical report so we can find the fault. That report contains what the app's code was doing at the moment it stopped, your phone model, your iOS version and a random ID for your installation. It carries no name, no email address and nothing about your challenges. We use it to fix bugs and for nothing else.
The QualityTimer app: what it does not collect
Which apps you use or for how long. What you read, watch or say, or what you type outside the app. Websites you visit. Your location. Contacts, photos, calendar or anything else on the phone. Any phone use outside a challenge you started yourself.
The app uses Apple's Screen Time to tell whether the phone is in use. Apple does not give us the content of anything, and we do not ask for it.
The QualityTimer app: who sees what
If you joined through your employer, your employer sees group totals only: how many people have an account, how many have run a challenge, how many challenges were run and finished, total phone-free minutes, which challenges people used, activity by week and by hour of the day, how many breaks people took, and typical and longest run lengths. Your individual challenges are not shown to them. Small groups are not hidden, so a total for a team of two describes a person.
When you claim a reward from your employer, they see your name, your email address and what you claimed, so they can hand it over. Earning is anonymous to them. Spending is not. QualityTimer's own staff can see reward claims too, including partner rewards, to process them.
If you use the app with friends and have no employer in the app, no employer sees anything. If you do have one, the phone-free minutes from your friend challenges count in your employer's group totals as well.
One other company is involved, and it is Google. We use Google's Firebase to send you notifications and to receive the crash reports described above. Google processes that data on our instructions, as our supplier. For a notification it receives what the notification shows: the challenge's name, its start and end time, your coin count for that run, whether the run is going, paused, finished or failed, whether the phone was picked up during the run, how many breaks and restarts you have left and, while you are on a break, when it started and ends. Beyond that it does not receive the stretches your phone was or was not in use, or anything an employer sees. Crash reports and notification data are processed by Google outside the EU, in the United States. Versions of the app before build 80 also sent Google anonymous usage statistics through Firebase Analytics (which screens were opened, on what kind of phone). That is switched off from build 80 on.
Data travels encrypted between the app and our servers.
The QualityTimer app: your choices
You can stop using the app at any moment, without giving a reason. You can ask us to delete your account by emailing [email protected]. Your login is removed straight away, although a phone that is already signed in can keep working for up to 12 hours before it is locked out. Removing every copy of your challenge history from our systems is a manual step on our side, and we tell you when it is complete. You can also ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
We keep your account and challenge history while your account exists.
